Chief Rick Smith of the Kansas City Police Department wrote in a blog on Wednesday that he believes that cannabis is responsible for his city’s higher than average murder rate. Kansas City, Missouri placed #26 on the list of U.S. cities with 100,000 or more residents with the highest murder rate, based on FBI data from 2015 to 2016, the most recent available. To back his claim, Smith writes in his blog that 10 murders in the city this year have been directly motivated by marijuana, and include a fews details from a recent homicide. “Most of these marijuana-related shootings start as robberies of marijuana or the money connected to it,” Smith wrote . An alarming new report is raising more concerns about e-cigarettes, particularly the vaping products that come from unregulated sources. The details come from an investigation published Friday by NBC News, which commissioned a top cannabis testing facility to test a sample of 18 THC vaping cartridges. The cartridges were obtained from both legal dispensaries and unlicensed dealers.  The three cartridges that were procured from legal dispensaries based in California included “no heavy metals, pesticides or residual solvents like Vitamin E.” The same could not be said, however, for the products bought from the illicit market.  According to NBC, “13 out of the other 15 samples from [illicit market] THC cartridges were found to contain Vitamin E.”  The testing facility commissioned by NBC also tested 10 of the unregulated cartridges for pesticides, with all 10 coming back positive.  “The products all contained myclobutanil, a fungicide that can transform into hydro...

A Kentucky-based company that produces CBD has filed a $44 million lawsuit against an Oregon company it claims sold it nearly worthless hemp seeds that ruined a massive 2019 crop. The crop was destined to help fulfill the country’s booming demand for CBD, a plant extract soaring in popularity as a treatment for health problems including anxiety and insomnia. But Elemental Processing of Lexington, Kentucky, claims those plans tanked when HP Farms of Troutdale sold it more than 6 million seeds that were mostly “male” instead of “feminized,” as promised. The suit says male seeds sell for less than a penny each while feminized seeds cost as must as $1 each because female plants produce a CBD-rich flower. According to the suit, the presence of male plants also prevents female plants from flowering. Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee of Washington directed health officials on Friday to ban the sale of all flavored e-cigarettes and vaping products in the state. In an executive order, the governor called on the state Board of Health to issue the ban, which is to include both nicotine and THC-based products, at its meeting scheduled for October 9. The ban would not go into effect until ordered by the board. Inslee’s prohibition on vaping products along with several other measures were taken as a response to the nation’s ongoing rash of serious lung injuries and illnesses that have been tied to vaping and e-cigarettes.
